The Radiology Residency Program at Central Asian University, in collaboration with AKFA Medline University Hospital, provides a comprehensive and practice-oriented education aligned with international standards. The program prepares residents for a successful career in diagnostic radiology by offering extensive hands-on training, advanced imaging techniques, and access to cutting-edge technology.

Curriculum Overview

The Radiology Residency Program is a 4-year program structured into 8 rotation blocks, each lasting 6 months, and covering all major radiology subspecialties. The program emphasizes a gradual increase in clinical responsibility, advanced imaging training, and comprehensive diagnostic expertise. An international rotation in Korea, the USA, or Europe is optional in the final year.

Postgraduate Year 1 (PGY-1) – Foundations of Radiology

• Professional etiquette, behavior, and legal aspects of radiology

• Roles and responsibilities of a radiologist

• Radiological physics and radiological anatomy

• Radiation hazards, safety, and radioprotection

Emergency Radiology introduction, including:

• Chest and abdominal X-ray interpretation

• Musculoskeletal (MSK) trauma radiography

• Emergency ultrasound techniques

Postgraduate Year 2 (PGY-2) – Specialization Begins

First half:

Basics of CT and MRI

Emergency applications of CT and MRI

Second half:

Musculoskeletal radiology
Urogenital radiology

Residents participate in multidisciplinary team discussions and begin training in interventional techniques.

Postgraduate Year 3 (PGY-3) – Advanced Subspecialty Imaging

First half:

Vascular interventional radiology (including peripheral and neuro)
Non-vascular interventional radiology (e.g., pain management)
Image-guided biopsies (CT and ultrasound-guided)

Second half:

Basics of radiotherapy and nuclear medicine
Pediatric radiology integrated across all subspecialties

Research in diagnostic imaging and hands-on use of advanced ultrasound and procedural techniques are encouraged.

Postgraduate Year 4 (PGY-4) – Interventions, Pediatrics, and Leadership

First half:

Vascular interventional radiology (including peripheral and neuro)
Non-vascular interventional radiology (e.g., pain management)
Image-guided biopsies (CT and ultrasound-guided)

Second half:

Basics of radiotherapy and nuclear medicine
Pediatric radiology integrated across all subspecialties
